Automated Micro-Needling (also known as Collagen Induction Therapy) is a new innovation in aesthetic medicine for treating the appearance of fine lines, scars, and improvement of the skin’s overall appearance. It also has a positive effect on hyperpigmentation as well as on hypo-pigmentation, traumatic scars, and stretch marks and generally creates a fresher appearance and glow to the skin. The procedure can be used on all parts of the body: face, neck, décolleté, arms, hands, legs, abdomen, and back.
What should I expect?
During this procedure, tiny needles are used to create controlled micro-injuries to the skin in order to produce collagen and elastin. The skin’s repair process results in improvement of the appearance of softer wrinkles. Automated micro-needling also creates superficial micro-channels which can be used with topical gels, creams, and serums to help improve the appearance of the skin.
Does it hurt?
Prior to your treatment, a topical anesthetic is applied to the treatment area. You may feel the vibration of the pen, but very little if any discomfort.
What are some of the benefits?
- Dramatically Improves Texture and Skin Tone
- Affordable and Non-invasive
- Wrinkle reduction
- Improves the appearance of Scars
- Long lasting
- Can be used in conjunction with P.R.P. (platelet Rich Plasma)– Growth factors derived from patients own blood.
Micro-Needling with PRP
To enhance the results and make them longer-lasting, we offer Micro-Needling with PRP, which is the application of the patient’s own platelet-rich blood plasma (PRP) into the patient’s skin. You may recognize the name “Vampire Facial”, perhaps the same concept, but without actually injecting the plasma back into the skin. The Micro-Needling opens the skin, encouraging collagen production and facilitating the opening of microchannels. The growth factors from PRP cause the release of stem cells already in the skin, essentially making them think there has been an injury and that there needs to be healing and new tissue produced. Stem cells transform into new collagen, new blood vessels, and new tissue.
This treatment is good for all skin types.
Acne can be caused by several known factors. Hormones, stress, diet and other variables can lead to acne breakouts. Untreated or poorly managed acne can lead to scarring. The three most common types of acne scars are Ice pick scars, boxcar scars and rolling scars.
Ice Pick Scars
Ice Pick scars, being the most common, get their name from the actual formation of the scars and as the name suggests. They are shaped like the hole left from an ice pick.
The scars are deep and narrow, which makes it difficult for them to be filled up naturally with collagen and some are too deep to heal entirely. Ice pick scars are usually less than 2mm across and usually caused by inflamed comedones (blackheads) or acne vulgaris (whiteheads).
Boxcar scars are similar to Ice Pick scars, however the Boxcar scars are wide and more rectangular with vertical edges. Boxcar scars are usually found on the temples and cheeks and they can be deep or shallow, but the majority of Boxcar scars are not as deep as Ice Pick scars.
Rolling scars are the least common of the three and they are usually shallow and wide.
Caused by damage under the surface of the skin, rolling scars are round and give the skin a rolling, wave-like appearance.
Fine lines and wrinkles are the often the first signs of aging.
Repeated muscle movement over time and sun exposure are the main contributing factors. Other factors like smoking, stress, fair complexion and poor diet can also contribute to accelerated aging of the skin. Eventually, everyone has to confront the fact that fine lines wrinkles are inevitable.
Fortunately, There Is A Solution
With MicroPen, we can face the problem head-on and reduce fine lines, or we can treat healthy skin to prevent them from form as quickly.
Here’s How It Works
The production of collagen and elastin can continue up to 6 months which leads to newer, healthier skin. Fine lines are reduced as new skin replaces old. Repeating this process several times per year and combining it with a healthy skin care regimen will dramatically improve your skin health.
Treatment for Stretch Marks
Stretch Marks are scar-like bands that appear on the surface of the skin almost anywhere on the body where the skin has been stretched beyond its natural capacity. Stretch marks appear where there is excess fat deposited, or where the skin has been unable to respond to the rate of growth (puberty or pregnancy). Stretch marks are caused by the prevention of fibroblasts, which form collagen and elastin skin fibers. Without the formation of collagen and elastin fibers, skin will not grow taut. This creates a lack of supportive material beneath the skin as it is stretched out. Skin subjected to more force than it can handle biologically will tear and turn into these stretch marks.
The most common sites where stretch marks are found are the abdomen specifically around the navel area, breasts, thighs, hips, and buttocks.
At Renew Health and Wellness we are doing MicroPen treatments with PRP for effective reduction or removal of stretch marks on the skin.
MicroPen treatment with patient’s own plasma (PRP) stimulates the body’s own production of collagen, which is a connective tissue that gives skin its firmness and resilience. The procedure involves puncturing the skin multiple times with tiny needles to create a ‘wound-site’ in the dermis layer which triggers the body’s natural healing process. The growth factors concentrated in PRP create the production of new collagen and elastin. By using PRP both in the collagen and as a topical skin covering helps the marks heal from both ends, with the skin getting tauter and the marks themselves healing from the topical use of the PRP.
The outside layer of skin is unaffected by the micro-needling procedure, allowing for the new collagen to be used solely for stretch mark healing.
During the nine months of pregnancy the abdomen is subjected to unprecedented stress and stretching as a result of an expanding uterus to accommodate a growing baby and the inherent weight gain associated with gestation.
Pregnancy stretch marks often cause deep rippling of the skin across the abdomen, but can also appear on the breasts, thighs, back or any other area there has been weight gain.
Treatment for post-pregnancy stretch marks is most effective when they are relatively new and often red or purple in colour, as collagen can be more readily produced to heal the tear in the dermis.
